Soul of autumn (秋の魂)

Catch the soul of the seasons

Through flowers, poems and wagashi …

In a book to feel season changes and experiment what Nagori (名残) and Natsukashii (懐かしい) are.

Nagori is nostalgic feelings about things or situations that ended or that is ending.

Natsukashii is also nostalgic feelings about happy memories which can warmth your (the) heart when you remind them (when remind them).

Haiku, Japanese poems contain a kigo (季語), a word that refers to season changes.

“A moment
In life’s brevity
Autumn sunset”

“Softly falls the light
Of Autumn’s mellowing sun
Across fields and hills”

As a Kigo in Haiku …

Flowers for aromas and colors of autumnal landscape,

Wagashi (japanese sweets) and tea for flavors, of warmness of early (初) autumn and, of frost and cold of mid- (仲) and late (晩) autumn.

Minimalist drawings of wagashi, wild flowers photos and short (mostly japanese) poems paired with singular and unique teas, to catch the essence and mood of the fall season …

That’s my project …

Very far from perfect, made with a lot of humilty in front of the immensity, beautifulness and fineness of the Japanese seasons’ philosophy …

Nevertheless, made with sincerity, lot of passion and willing of discovering and sharing with everybody, the wonderful world, also wild and minuscule, of japanese seasons …

More than a documentary and informational papers, a soft proposition and suggestion of what my autumn feelings seem through my senses, to allow everyone to experiment its autumnal feelings and let be free and creative, what flavors, aromas and images of the autumn, each one likes.

However, if someone is looking for and curious about japanese seasonal (hi)story and culture information, I would be so happy to share with everyone, the books and websites I used, which tell so well and really better than me, the story of japanese philosophy about the importance of seasons and the impermanence (無常) of things.

And as a kind and gentle wish, don’t hesitate and feel really welcome, at anytime, to share with all of us what each one’s fall season soul looks like …
