  Tea Tour Page-4 Here at Obubu Tea you have a rare opportunity to experience Japanese tea culture and take a look behind the scenes of a local tea farm in Wazuka, Kyoto – the region, known for premium Japanese tea. By joining our Japanese Tea Tour both tea lovers and tea professionals will be able to witness long-lived Japanese tea traditions and enhance their understanding of Japanese teas. The tour will involve a visit to some beautiful tea fields in the surrounding mountains to learn about tea farming followed by an in-house tea tasting session of a wide palette of our teas: from everyday houjicha and genmaicha to premium sencha and matcha. We are looking forward to welcoming you on an unforgettable adventure to tea sites and flavours!

Tour Schedule

Tour availability is displayed in the calendar at the bottom of the page. Approximate schedule depending on season and weather is below.

  • 11:00-11:30 Welcome tea and a brief introduction
  • 11:30-13:00 Tea Field and Factory. Visit beautiful tea fields in the surrounding mountains and enjoy a scenic car ride. Please be ready for a brief 3-5 minute hike up a steep sloping tea field road. After our time in the fields, we will have a short tour of our sencha tea processing factory.
  • 13:00-13:30 Traditional Tea Lunch (vegetarian and vegan option available)
  • 13:30-14:30 Interactive tasting of traditional locally made Japanese teas
  • 14:30-15:00 Q&A and farewell

  • Tours are held in English by our bilingual staff.

Tour Price

  • The tour is available for up to 18 people at a price of 15,400 yen/person including tax. ※ From January 2025, the price will be revised to 16,500 yen/person including tax.

  • Guided visit to some beautiful tea fields and a real tea processing factory
  • Interactive tasting of 9 different kinds of locally made Japanese teas
  • Lunch
  • Japanese tea sweets

Q – What is the luggage allowance for each guest?

A – Each guest is allowed to bring one large bag and one piece of hand luggage.

Q – Is there a vegetarian or vegan option available for the Traditional Tea Lunch?

A – Yes, we offer both vegetarian and vegan options for the Traditional Tea Lunch.

Q – What happens to the tea tour if there is heavy rain?

A – The tea tour will continue as scheduled, even in heavy rain, as long as public transportation (including taxis) is operational and not completely stopped.

Q – Is the tea tour accessible for guests who may not be comfortable with hiking?

A – If you’re not comfortable hiking in the tea fields, please let our staff know the day before the orientation session in the tea room, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. This is a group tour designed to enjoy with other guests, and visiting the tea fields is a highlight of our authentic Japanese tea farm experience. For guests who cannot walk up steep slopes, we also offer a private tour option that can be tailored to your group’s needs. Please contact us by email before booking to arrange this option.

Tea Tour Booking Steps:

Booking is required at least a week in advance to reserve your place on the tour.
  1. To book your place on the tea tour please select a date from the calendar below.
  2. After submitting the booking form you will be directed to a payment page. Please make the payment at the time of the booking (you cannot return to the payment page afterwards).
  3. Your tour is reserved once the payment is confirmed (Stripe confirmation is regarded as the tour confirmation).

Cancellation:

  • More than 14 days before the tour date: Full refund
  • 14 – 7 days before the tour date: 80% refund
  • 6 – 3 days before the tour date: 50% refund
  • Less than 3 days before the tour date: No refund
  • In case of a refund, we will refund you the amount after deducting the Transfer and Booking Fees.
