You may or may not have had the pleasure of drinking a Hojicha Latte (if you haven’t, I highly recommend it!) And if you’re like me, and some of our other interns, you like to sweeten your latte slightly…
Instead of using sugar, why not try making a simple syrup with Hojicha tea, instead next time. The recipe is super simple, and only takes 5 minutes. The syrup can be enjoyed in Hojicha and Matcha Latte’s, but also on pancakes, french toast, and just about anything else you can think of!
Hojicha Syrup Recipe
100ml Strong Brewed Hojicha tea
100g Sugar
- Brew your hojicha tea – we recommend to brew it strong, or try our dark roast for the best results.
- Add your tea to a saucepan and weigh
- Add equal parts sugar, and stir on a medium-low heat until sugar dissolves
- Allow to cool slightly, then pour into an air tight jar or bottle.
- Enjoy in a Hojicha Latte, over pancakes and french toast, or even in cake!
Hojicha Latte Recipe
- Heat 250ml milk of your choice on a medium heat
- Whisk in 5g of Hojicha powder (more if you like it strong)
- Add sugar or Hojicha Syrup to taste
- When heated to your desired temperature, pour into your favourite mug and enjoy
Iced Hojicha Latte Recipe
- Whisk 5g of Hojicha in hot water, like you would for matcha. If you don’t have a chasen, you can also use a milk frother
- Add ice and milk to your glass of choice
- Pour whisked Hojicha over the milk and ice
- Add Hojicha syrup
- Stir and enjoy!
