Japanese Tea Seminar and Masterclass in The Hague 8th-10th September, 2018

Obubu is coming to the Hague again! Hosted and supported by the International Tea And Coffee Academy we are bringing tea activities that will help you understand Japanese tea at a deeper level. On the 8th September we will hold a Japanese Tea Seminar that will provide a broad overview of Japanese tea. On 9th-10th September in a Japanese Tea Masterclass you will be able to delve more deeply into Japanese tea and especially learn more about Sencha and Matcha.

Japanese Tea Seminar

Japanese tea has become popular all around the world and there is a lot of curiosity to learn more about it.  The seminar will provide a broad overview of Japanese tea. You will be able to discover how Japanese tea is cultivated and processed both traditionally and these days in Japan. You will also learn what different kinds of teas there are in Japan and what to pay attention to when brewing them. Throughout the seminar you will also have a chance taste and compare several popular Japanese teas such as Matcha, Sencha, Hojicha and more. This seminar with a passionate and charismatic team of tea producers from Japan will provide a fun and engaging way to learn about Japanese tea.

Japanese Tea Masterclass

The curiosity in Japanese tea has been growing year after year and many people want to learn more about it. The first day will be dedicated to the most common Japanese tea – Sencha. During the class you will be able to learn more in depth about how Sencha is cultivated and produced as well as the different variations in its production. You will also learn about what the culture of Sencha is like in Japan and what are the typical utensils in making it. The class will also involve several practical exercises. You will have an opportunity to evaluate and compare Sencha leaves (different seasons, different regions, etc.) as well as try several brewing techniques with professional guidance.

The second day will focus on the most popular Japanese tea – Matcha. Similar to the first day you will be able to learn what is special about Matcha production. You will also learn how Matcha culture has developed through time and what is the situation today. The class will also include a demonstration of the famous Japanese tea ceremony. On the practical side you will have a chance to compare different kinds of tea powders and make your own Matcha guided by Japanese tea professionals.
