Intern #225 Jessica: Presentation Renewal

Hello! My name is Jessica, intern #225 and I’m happy to share with you my small contribution to improving Obubu as a part of my ambassador project.

First,

I came to Obubu during the spring harvest season (aka our busiest season), so I knew that the amount of time I had to work on my project would be limited. Therefore, I wanted to contribute in a way that was going to be the most efficient use of the skills I already came here with. Prior to Obubu, I used to work as a strategy analyst in corporate America where my main responsibility was to produce powerpoint decks for the c-suite. So imagine my delight when I found presentation decks that could use a bit of updating at Obubu!

At Obubu, we focus a lot on giving information verbally during our tours. I felt there was a lack of delivering information that was visually digestible for our guests. I’m a visual learner so I thought that other guests who resonate or may have the same learning style may benefit.

We have decks for the morning and afternoon sessions of our regular 4H tour, 1H short tour, 2H short tour, matcha tour, the list goes on. But each deck does not have a unifying theme across them. Titles are not always in place, there is no logo consistently on the page in the same location, and it’s hard to see the text in front of pictures sometimes.

In hopes to create a bit more uniformity across decks that we currently have and future decks that we may produce, I decided to make an attempt at creating a powerpoint template for Obubu. I created my first version of a slide template directly in powerpoint, but felt like my creativity was slightly stifled. I also had a hard time trying to find our brand guide in our shared drive so I left this project alone to marinate for a bit.

My first attempt at creating a base slide to be re-used in ppt

A few weeks later,

I learned from Marusya (my assistant manager) that we actually have a brand guide in Canva and that it is relatively easy to import between Powerpoint and Canva. So, after some pondering, Canva became my tool of choice. Canva is a much nicer medium to start off an initial brainstorm since it has lots of creative elements.

I started out by creating a simple set of slides that could be easily adjusted based on the designer. For example, the first slide I created was a simple transition slide with a centered text and a background photo with white borders in the inspiration of a postcard. I’ve imported this into our powerpoint on our big tea tour laptop so that the designer has the freedom to change the photo and text easily, while still keeping our logo on the bottom right and photo in place.

Then, I got caught up recreating slides from the regular 4H tour and went to create 9 reimagined slides. Here are two examples of a before and after.

In my opinion, this is one of our most interesting slides to share with our guests since there’s a wealth of information. However, with the way that this slide is presented, it makes it very hard to understand what one might be looking at.

I took a stab at reorganizing some of the information so that guests can easy understand that there are 4 major components of tea that we want them to learn about.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time during the internship to do an entire revamp of our slide deck but I hope that some of these slides will be helpful in the creation of new decks.

Thank you to Obubu for letting me run with my creative freedom, I hope you find these slides to be a good starting point for inspiration on new presentation decks!
