Intern #232 Liszt Cagayat: “Teas of the Month” Illustration Project

Hi, I’m Intern #232 Liszt Cagayat! Since I’m a Graphic Designer, I’ve always known that my intern project would be something related to visuals.

For my project, I assisted Marusya (AM#17) with social media materials, specifically the Teas of the Month template that will run throughout the year. I was briefed that I would need to create illustrations and illustrate the text for each month.

While being at Obubu, I always make 6-panel Instagram Stories myself, so this was a fun project for me to work on.

Looking at past Obubu projects, I noticed that most of the illustrations have a very handmade and cute style, so I decided to go in that direction. It’s also a style that I’m comfortable with.

Aside from the cute style, my goal for the illustrations was to keep them simple, since photos will also be added to the grid.

For the first part of the project, I showed Marusya some samples and how they could be used in the template. She would then carry them over to Canva to create the templates for each month.

After one round of revisions, she approved the direction, and I continued working on the monthly illustrations.

I also suggested creating a template for quizzes that Japanese tea drinkers could participate in. With Marusya’s help, we came up with nine questions/categories, and I created icons for each of them. I was also able to lay them out on Canva, so they can easily be adjusted if anything needs to be changed.

I was really pleased with how the illustrations turned out, and I hope they can also be used for other social media materials in the future. More than anything, I hope that Japanese tea drinkers who see them will enjoy sharing their teas and preferences!
